Schedules
Students with autism need to have a predictable routine. Having a daily schedule can help reduce the amount of behavior problems that might occur. Students with autism might have difficulty with a sense of time. They might feel that less preferred activities last a long time while preferred activities last only minutes. The classroom can have a basic daily schedule and at the same time the student can have a personal more detailed schedule that is followed. When routines are broken a question mark picture can be used in place so the student knows that something out of the ordinary will be happening. There are many different types of schedules for parents and teachers to use. But it is important that whatever one is put in place is meaningful to the child. The website below is a resource that has many different schedules to use.
